Upcoming Museum in the Community Talk
Jonathan and Beth Eayres will present a Museum in the Community talk on Wednesday, August 26 at 2 pm, featuring the Mahone Portrait House, Canada’s own portrait gallery in Mahone Bay. The privately owned collection, located at 572 Main St., showcases more than 100 works by significant Canadian artists, including Alex Colville, David Blackwood, William Kurelek, Joyce Wieland, and Ozias Leduc.
Housed in a 19th-century shipwright’s home, the gallery explores Canadian history and identity through portraiture, with local connections and a national scope. The talk will include a 20-minute tour of the collection, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to socialize.

Last March, we co-organized a talk about a unique Mahone Bay pottery business. Pam Birdsall and Tim Worthington discussed their love of pottery and the legacy of their 48 year pottery business.
How to Save an Island
In February, John Meisner and Syd Dumaresq of the Mahone Islands Conservation Association discussed the story of how MICA came to be, and its remarkable community, and volunteer driven success.

In April 2025, David Houston of the Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard Co-op led an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at ongoing boat restoration projects and the fascinating history of boatbuilding in Mahone Bay.
